FINMA

FINMA oversees the activities of private insurance companies in the life insurance, accident insurance, damage insurance and reinsurance domains.

It hands down agreements, controls and approves life insurance and sickness insurance products, verifies annual accounts, carries out inspections and where necessary undertakes measures to correct situations prejudicial to the insured.

Moreover, FINMA completes the control exercised by the Federal Office of public Health (OFSP) by overseeing the recognized health funds in the complementary health insurance area.

Since the beginning of 2006, insurance brokers also come under the scrutiny of FINMA.

In addition, FINMA is collaborating in the establishment of the legal bases and international conventions in matters of private insurance.
